How to find the volume of a football!?!?!?

how would you find the volume and surface area of a football? one way i believe is to submerge the football in a container filled with water to get the density of the football. then divide by the m in order to get the volume. the m of a football is 396 grams and if the container is 12 by 12 inches. but i don't know how to figure out how high the water will rise without physically doing it.
